Karl Latham is a NY-based internationally recognized drummer. He is known for his exceptional ability to dig into a variety of musical styles, playing straight-ahead jazz, avant-garde, funk, rock, Latin, and more.
As a freelance performer, Karl has performed with wide spectrum of notable artists such as Bernie Worrell; The Fantasy Band (Dave Valentine; Dave Samuels; Chuck Loeb); Ali Ryerson Quintet; Claudio Roditi; Clark Terry; the John Lee Quartet; Andy Snitzer; The Dizzy Gillespie Alumni All-Stars; Slide Hampton; Edgar Winter; Johnny Winter; Yotam Silberstein; Charlie Elgart, Michal Urbaniak; The Real Deal Big Band and for the Broadway hit musical “Bring it On”.
Karl is widely recognized as a veteran of the modern European Jazz scene since 1993 appearing regularly with German pianist/composer Johannes Mossinger, including 7 CD releases along with Joel Frahm, Joe Lovano, Bob Malach, Boris Kozlov, Seamus Blake, Kermit Driscoll and Don Braden and with German vibraphonist Wolfgang Lackerschmid, along with John Lee, Cameron Brown, Michal Urbaniak, the late Attila Zoller, Randy Brecker, Ryan Carniaux and Mark Egan.
Karl is a member of the electric jazz jam group, Unit1, with Mark Egan and John Hart; Unit1’s 2013 release appeared in JazzTimes Magazine “50 of the Top Jazz CDs for 2013, Karl was ranked 7th drums, in the 2013 35th Annual Jazz Station Poll. Karl is also a member of “Constellations” with Ryan Carniaux and Mark Egan and is co-leader of Big Fun(K) with saxophonist/composer Don Braden. Karl has released two CD’s as a leader: "Dancing Spirits" (1999) and "Resonance" (2007).
Karl is an endorsee for Yamaha Drums, Paiste Cymbals, Innovtive Percussion Drumsticks and Evans Drumheads. Karl is an active educator, teaching privately and as an adjunct professor at Drew University & several other colleges.
