Steven grew up in San Diego, California and taught himself how to play the drum set at age sixteen. At seventeen years old, Steven was accepted into the Berklee College of Music as a drum set principal and began his full-time music studies there in 2010 as a Professional Music major.
While at Berklee, Steven studied with a number of reputable musicians, including: Mike Clark, Dave DiCenso, Kenwood Dennard, Eguie Castrillo, Rod Morgenstein, Chad Szeliga, Matt Halpern, and many others (full list can be found on Steven's website). Steven is currently in his 8th semester at Berklee.
In addition to playing the drum set, Steven is often praised for his tuning ability and technical knowledge of the drums, and has worked as a drum tech for many iconic drummers during their visits to Berklee, including: Peter Erskine, Mike Clark, Horacio El Negro Hernandez, Stanton Moore, Jojo Mayer, and for Berklee faculty such as: John Ramsay, Tony Thunder Smith, Henrique De Almeida, and others.
Over the course of the last two years, Steven has gained substantial visibility on YouTube for his drumming videos. Steven works independently as the performer, recording engineer, mixer, producer, and video editor for all of his videos, which have now reached a total audience of over 1.7 million viewrs with an active following of over 7,000 subscribers and fans – most of them drummers. His audience continues to grow at over 1,000 views on a daily basis from over 153 countries worldwide, as well as a following of over 7,000 fans on Facebook.
Steven was also awarded the Viewers Choice award in the Mapex Drummer of Tomorrow Competition 2011, as well as named a quarterfinalist in the competition to perform in Nashville, TN. Steven was also selected as semi-finalist in the Roland International V-Drums Competition, but was unable to compete at the time due to an ongoing internship with one of the contests sponsors: Vic Firth.
