Biography


Born in Wellington, New Zealand in 1990, Dylan started drumming at age 6. He began performing publicly, playing solo and with bands, and appearing on New Zealand TV programmes What Now, Mai Time, The Good Morning Show and was a feature article on the Holmes Show aged 11 in 2001.

He has been tutored by some of NZ’s top drummers: Lance Philip – NZ School of Music Lecturer Wellington; NZ Jazz legend – Frank Gibson Jnr; Matt Collier – London College of Music graduate.

At age 9 he was the resident drummer for ‘Artsplash’ at the Michael Fowler Centre for 3 years from 1999, in an adult band accompanying massed Wellington school choirs.

Many have seen him stirring up the crowds on the streets busking since age 14 in Wellington, Hastings, Napier, Rotorua, Taupo and Hamilton. People have come to expect to see Dylan on Courtenay Place after the IRB Wellington Sevens, adding his rhythms to the street party. There are a number of YouTube clips of this with upwards of 10million views collectively.

He has performed drum clinics since 2003 promoting drum products around NZ and opened for internationally renowned New York Drummer Tommy Igoe in Wellington, Napier and Auckland in 2006.

Dylan featured as a solo artist at the International Tauranga Jazz Festival in the Baycourt Theatre in 2007, 2008 and 2009 of which a video of part of the 2007 performance has almost 10million views on YouTube.

Won the 2004 NZ National Drum Wars Open Age Category at age 13.

Won the 2006 New Zealand National Smokefree Rockquest (High School Band Competition) Musicianship Award of a scholarship to MAINZ at age 15.

2006 – 2011 Dylan performed at over 700 schools nationwide, with a roadshow giving motivational performances and talks to all school ages and holding Drumming Workshops with Intermediate and College aged students.

June 2012 – February 2015 Drum Tutoring to students of all ages.

December 2012 – March 2013 NZ tour with NZ’s Got Talent Finalist Mihirangi

May 2013 performed in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for the World Youth Jazz Festival and again in July to hold workshops and do recording.

July 2013 – January 2015 with NZ reggae band sons of Zion playing multiple gigs and festivals in NZ and Australia, also toured in Japan in September 2014.

2013 X Factor NZ house band with his sister Hannah Elise on Bass Guitar.

September 2013 tour with NZ artist Awa in Hawaii.

October 2013 NZ tour with Tama Waipara.

November 2013, March 2014 sat in and toured with Blood, Sweat & Tears.

May 2014 – February 2015 resident Thursday night gig with covers band at Doolans Brothers Botany.

September 2014 clinic tour in Indonesia.

October 2014 jazz festivals in Western Samoa and American Samoa with Andrew Faleatua Quintet.

February 2015 Dylan moved to America and became a full time touring and recording member with Blood, Sweat & Tears.

He has also played with Batucada Sound Machine, Pieter T, Deach, Guitar Sensation Kara Gordon, Lance Su’a Quartet amongst many covers bands of varying styles. Also performed many clinics and showcases in NZ and Australia.

June 2015 became a DW Endorsee.

November 2015 became a Paiste Endorsee.
